Salicylate and Massive Gastric Hemorrhage

Abstract
In 1893, Herman Dreser introcuced Acetyl salicylic acid into clinical Medicine. Since then, many reports started to appear claiming Aspirin as a cause of Gastric Hemorrhage. The occurance of massive Gastrointestional Hemorrhage after salicylate ingestion has been impressed recently by several authors.
We experienced a case who ingested Aspirin for 12 days because of knee joint pain. On the 13th day of Aspirin ingestion, he has had massive gastric bleeding. We transfused 38 pints of whole blood within three days to him, whom was received emergency gastrectomy on the Oct. 12th, 1972. And the postoperative course of gastrectomy was uneventful.
The literatures on the Salicylate and Gastric hemorrhage were reviewed briefly.
